Saving Susannah Jones

About Saving Susannah Jones

Saving Susannah Jones

In the still of a cool Colorado evening, the Circle J Ranch house burns to the ground, leaving Susannah Jones and her two brothers orphaned and homeless. Embittered by the tragedy, Susannah’s older brother grows increasingly cruel, leading Susannah to make the difficult choice to leave the last of her family behind to forge a new life for herself. It is the kindness of Dr. Kate, the woman physician in town, as well as a chance meeting with a rugged homesteader that give Susannah the strength she needs to escape.

When Joseph Iverson encounters the harassed young woman on his land one day, he has no thought but to provide the assistance she so clearly needs. Overcoming his shyness, he takes Susannah under his wing and agrees to a marriage of convenience to liberate her from her brother. As the pair works side by side, their mutual admiration deepens. But their happy existence is threatened all soon by a series of “accidents” on the farm. With danger looming ever closer, Susannah and Joseph must discover who is bent on their destruction before the life and marriage they’ve built together goes up in flames.

My review

I love finding favorite authors! I love knowing that I’m going to love their next book, no matter what. Carolyn Twede Frank is one of those for me.

I love reading her books. She has such a way with characters. I loved Susannah in this one. There are so many great things about her, her kindness, service and charity. But the main thing I loved is her vulnerability. Susannah for many reasons has never felt loved by those who should be closest to her. She tries to make them love her by doing everything for them. And that doesn’t ever work. Susannah is able to learn for herself later in the book that she can’t base her value on what others think of her. And I LOVED that. It’s a lesson we all need to know.

Susannah’s character is strong. She goes through so many things, each seemingly worse than the last. Yet she is a survivor. I couldn’t even imagine myself in the situations she ends up in. But she keeps going. I loved that about her!

Then there’s Joseph. He’s minding his own business on his homestead when strange things start happening. Starting with finding Susannah on his property sick, weak and about to die. I loved the way he takes her in, learns to love her and tries to make her whole world better. He’s the perfect kind of hero for Susannah.

There are so many crazy things happening in the plot. I was amazed with every page turn at just how many things happened to this couple. I didn’t want to stop reading for fear of missing something, or leaving the characters in peril.

Saving Susannah Jones was so great! I loved reading every page and didn’t want the story to be finished when it was. I have so many questions that I’d love to still be answered about this one. Maybe they’ll be another book with the same characters some day. I sincerely hope so!

I was sent a copy of Saving Susannah Jones as a gift from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
